Prone, F-Class, Bench-Rest, & 3-Position
Smallbore rifle shooting is an event where you compete on various paper targets from 50 to 100 yards to improve your precision rifle skills. We host three formats of firing: 3-Position (kneeling, prone, & standing unsupported); Prone (no artificial support); and F-Class or Benchrest (artificial support is authorized). Iron & Optic sights are authorized for all competitors. In Prone & 3-Position you may use a sling to support your shooting.
Smallbore Prone is a course of fire where competitors compete on various paper targets from 50 to 100 yards. Divisions of shooting include; Match Rifle, Sporter Rifle, and the F-Class/Benchrest Rifle.
Smallbore Three-Position (3P) is a course of fire common and popular for intercollegiate competition because it closely follows the format for competitions in the Olympics. 3P consists of unlimited sighting shots and twenty to fourty shots for score in each position; kneeling, prone, and standing.
Smallbore Rifle shooting is a widely practiced sport intended for both juniors and adults. The Intent & Spirit of Smallbore rifle training is to promote target competitions with .22 caliber rimfire rifles. We encourage the use of rifles & ammunition that are relatively low-cost, readily available, and typically used during recreational target shooting. Any firearm or item of equipment that is not mentioned in the CMP/NRA rules or that is contrary to the intent and spirit of the rules is subject to the determination of the Match Director.

We at the South Texas Marksmanship Training Center use the National Rifle Association (NRA) & Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) approved courses of fire. These events are training for State, Regional, and National Championships as well as the Junior Olympics & Paralympic events. We may change the events to focus on particular stages or distance, as several shooters compete in National Events and would like to get extra training in weak areas. This will be noted prior to competition.
