AXIS vs ALLIES VINTAGE RIFLE MATCH

What rifle? Any military rifle, either bolt action or semi-automatic, that was designed before January 1, 1946, is allowed (actual manufacture date can be newer).

Examples of eligible rifles:

  • US M1917
  • M14/M1A
  • German Gew98, K98k
  • Swiss K31
  • French MAS36
  • Swede M94, M96, M38
  • British SMLE Nr1 MkIII, Nr4
  • Yugoslav M24/47
  • Arisaka Type 02/45

Examples of rifles NOT eligible:

  • US M16 (AR15)
  • SKS
  • AK-47
  • French MAS51

Scoped Rifles: In keeping with the vintage spirit of this match, a scoped rifle is eligible only if the particular rifle was originally available in a sniper configuration during WW2 or earlier, AND the installed scope is of equal vintage design, and matches the original performance specs.

Examples of eligible scoped rifles:

  • M1C/M1D with Lyman Alaskan or M84 scope
  • Remington M1903A4 with Weaver 330C, M73B1, or 330-M8 scope
  • USMC M1903A1 with Unertl scope
  • Swedish Mauser M41B with Ajack scope
  • German K98k with ZF41 scope

Examples of scoped rifles NOT eligible:

  • German K98k with ‘scout mount’ scope

Course of fire: 35 rounds fired at 200 yards. 5 non-record sighting shots slow fire (any position); 30 rounds for record: 10 rounds slow fire (prone), 10 rounds rapid fire (prone), 10 rounds slow fire (standing or prone). Competitors provide their own ammunition. NOTE: Loaded magazines are used only during the rapid fire portion, which requires the shooter to either change or recharge the magazine. All other shots are fired one-round, single-load at a time.

Shooting Equipment: In keeping with the vintage spirit of this match, modern shooting equipment and clothing is not allowed, unless it is a modern-made version of equipment or clothing used during WW2 or earlier. This does not apply to ‘normal’ clothing, e.g., trousers, shirts, and shoes, except as noted below for shooting jackets and hats. NOTE: Spotting scopes (any) are allowed, but only for the five initial sighting shots; during the match you cannot use spotting scope nor can a friend spot shots for you. All spotting scopes will be removed fron firing line during the match.

Examples of Equipment eligible:

  • Jackets/hats/slings – Any pre-1946 military-issued or – styled jackets/hats/slings are allowed, regardless of manufacture date. No Creedmoor or Champions Choice clothing, slings, bipods, or improved sights.
  • Military helmets are allowed.
  • EXCEPTION Mats – Any shooting mat is allowed.
  • EXCEPTION Gloves – Any shooting glove is allowed.
